Humpback Whale Expeditions

East Coast , Australia

Marine Boy Productions have been visiting Australia's South East Coast for the past two decades and believe this is one of the best and most easily accessible locations in the world to view Humpback Whales feeding and at play.

Each season Humpback whales migrate south from their calving grounds in the tropics to areas along Australia's South East Coast where they pause to feed on krill and baitfish. This surface feeding and breaching makes for an amazing spectacle and allows for some incredible photographic opportunities. This occurs between late September and November.

This is one of the few easy access places in the world that we can witness this amazing phenomenon.

Underwater photographic opportunities exist for the experienced cameraman to document this amazing spectacle. Underwater filming of Humpbacks can only be done under permit. The Marine Boy Productions team can assistance in applying for these permits.

Other animals that may be encountered at this time of year include Sun fish, Leatherback Turtles, huge numbers of sea birds and a variety of other cetacean species including the Killer Whales, Bryde’s whale and several dolphins species.

Each year the Killer Whales attempt to attack the Humpback calves as they pass through this part of the coast. This can make for some very rare photographic opportunities.

Tonga

Marine Boy Productions have been visiting Tonga for the past decade and believe this to be the finest place in the world to observe and film Humpback Whales underwater. Tonga is located in the South Pacific Ocean and offers warm, crystal clear waters and plenty of whales.

In 2007, Robert Torelli was Director of Underwater Photography for a number of large screen productions filming Humpback Whales. This included “Orchestra Goes Wild” by the Australian Production company Wild Candy. The other major production was “Dolphins and Whales 3D” for 3D Entertainment. Here Robert managed some incredible “up close and personal” sequences of Humpback whales and their calves for the large IMAX screen.

Robert utilized his superior free diving skills to obtain some amazing sequences of Humpback whales.

Marine Boy Productions offer expeditions to Tonga for both private individuals and film crews. They utilize the best charter operators and cameramen in the business. Marine Boy Productions have a vast amount of experience in Tonga and in the filming of Humpback Whales.
