Blue and Mako Shark Expeditions

Marine Boy Productions run expeditions to film both Blue and Mako Sharks off the coast of Victoria, Australia, into Bass Strait. The best time of the year for these expeditions is from January through to May. These expeditions are available for both sport divers and professional photographers and film crews. Divers need to be competent in the water and able to free dive. Marine Boy Productions do offer support in the form of safety divers.

Average size of sharks encountered is 1.5-2.5 meters with the occasional larger specimen.

One occasional special visitor to Bass Strait is the the mighty Blue Whale. This is the largest animal in the world and is attracted to the area to feed on krill. Best time of the year is from late February through to the end of May.

Other species encountered on some trips are both Bottlenose and Common Dolphins along with an amazing amount of birdlife. At times tens of thousands of Mutton Birds can cover the sea. Groups of Australian Fur Seals can also be seen along with the occasional Leatherback turtle appearing.

Note: Shark cages are not used to view these animals underwater.
